Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker's participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament could be in jeopardy after he picked up a "nasty injury" in a Premiership match for Kaizer Chiefs against University of Pretoria on Saturday.
Parker went down in a challenge during the game, played at FNB Stadium, and had to be stretchered off. Replays suggested he was in serious pain.
“Bernard's (injury) is quite a nasty one. He twisted his ankle as he got kicked and he landed, and I think it's maybe ligament damage,” Baxter said after the game.
Parker, the joint leading goal-scorer with eight strikes in the league campaign, was included by Bafana coach Gordon Igesund in the squad to play Malawi in an AFCON warm-up match in Durban on December 22.
Igesund is set to announce his final squad on December 30, with Bafana playing two further friendly games before the start of AFCON on January 19.
South Africa play Norway on January 8 at Cape Town Stadium and Algeria on January 12 at Orlando Stadium.
