Barker lauds SAFA

Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana coach, Clive Barker, has applauded SAFA for appointing Neil Tovey as their new technical director.

Barker told Sport24 that he is very delighted with the move that has seen his 1996 Africa Cup of Nations-winning captain take such a big role within local football.

“Wonderful decision by SAFA, I’m very excited.

"Tovey is young, very experienced and a good organiser,” Barker said.

“I have no doubt that he will deliver because he has done very well in football since that proud moment lifting the Africa Cup of Nations as the captain of Bafana Bafana.”

Barker said he believes a number of the historic Afcon-winning side can play big roles in the development of football in the country.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
