Bafana warning for Igesund

Cape Town - The South African Football Association (SAFA) has warned new Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund that he must meet its expectations or prepare to lose his job.

Igesund was named head coach in Soweto on Saturday, pipping interim coach Steve Komphela to the post.

SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani announced that Igesund was offered a two-year contract with a mandate.

And according to Eyewitness News Igesund, who led Moroka Swallows to a runners-up spot in the PSL last season, will have to reach at least the semi-finals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations tournament and qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

“Logic should dictate that if that is not met, the coach [will be] without a job,” said Nematandani.

Igesund’s first challenge will be to lead Bafana Bafana in their friendly against Brazil on September 7.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
