Bafana v Algeria in AFCON opener

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana will open their 2015 AFCON campaign against the number one ranked African side, Algeria on January 19.

At Wednesday's group stage draw in Malabo, Bafana Bafana found themselves facing the worst-case scenario when they were drawn in the "Group of Death".

Shakes Mashaba's side have it all to do as they enter Group C as the lowest ranked side, according to the latest FIFA rankings.

Ranked 11th in Africa, Bafana Bafana are set to face Algeria, Ghana and Senegal when the tournament kicks off in Equatorial Guinea on January 17, 2015.

The national team face an incredibly tough task in their first group match against Algeria's "Desert Warriors".

Algeria go into the tournament as Africa's top ranked side and in buoyant mood after an impressive showing at Soccer World Cup in Brazil in July.

The Desert Warriors and Bafana Bafana will square off at the Estadio de Mongomo in Mongomo, on January 19.

Four days later on January 23, Bafana Bafana will face Senegal's "Lions of Teranga" again at the Estadio de Mongomo.

As the fourth best side in Africa, Senegal head to Equatorial Guinea having never won the AFCON event but are showing the type of form that makes them one of the dark-horses for the tournament.

On January 27, Bafana Bafana will play their final group stage match against Ghana.

The Black Stars have won the event four times but with their last win coming in 1982, Africa's fifth ranked side will be going all out to bring home the silverware in the 2015 edition of AFCON.
