Cape Town - Bafana Bafana have plummeted down the latest FIFA rankings, dropping 10 places in the World Rankings on Thursday.
South Africa are now ranked as the world's 69th best side in the world and another alarming indicator for the coach of the national team is that Bafana Bafana have slipped to 18th place on the continent.
The drop in rankings comes shortly after Bafana Bafana's woeful COSAFA Cup campaign where the national team ultimately bowed out of the plate section on penalties at the hands of Malawi. This after failing to score in regulation time against Botswana and Malawi.
Bafana Bafana are now ranked as the 18th best side on the African continent.
At the top of the rankings, World Cup 2014 winners Germany remain on top while European neighbours Belgium have moved into second spot at the expense of Argentina.
France have moved up into ninth place with Switzerland dropping out of the top ten altogether.
Algeria and Ivory Coast, who have both dropped a global ranking spot, remain first and second on the continental rankings.
Bafana Bafana have the opportunity to begin their climb back up the rankings with AFCON qualifying set to get underway this weekend. The contentinal showpiece will be held in 2017 in Gabon but Bafana Bafana will need to escape from their qualifying group which includes Cameroon, Gambia and Mauritania.
The national team are set to face Gambia in Durban on Saturday, June 13 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
The match kicks off at 15:00.
