Bafana must not be intimidated

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi has issued that Bafana Bafana must go out and fight for a win in Congo.

The Bucs’ veteran defender guided the Ghosts to a successful trip to Brazzaville last year in the Africa Champions League, said that there are a few things the players will have to do correctly, if they are to bag a positive result in Point Noire.

“It was good that the team left on Thursday,” said Lekgwathi on the club's website.

“It can be difficult staying there for some time as we (Pirates) had some experiences which were different to what we are used (to) here; but the boys will have to take this game like a normal game.

“There can be no pressure or intimidation; the crowd will be big, but we must take it as if we are playing a normal game. We just need to hurt them because we are faster than them going forward.”

The 38-year-old mentioned that the likes of Thabo Matlaba, Senzo Meyiwa and Oupa Manyisa will have a big role to play because of the experiences they had.

“If they have to fight, they must fight - Congo is still in Africa so, it is not like we are going to Europe or anything like that.

“The team leader on the day, must be very strong; this is crucial match so, we will have to stay calm and fight hard.”

Bafana Bafana fixtures:

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
