Bafana game delayed live

2011-11-15 14:31

Johannesburg - Bafana Bafana’s international friendly against Zimbabwe will not be broadcast live on SABC 1, and will only be shown an hour after the game starts.

The game will be played at the Rufaro Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe, on Tuesday night and although the game will get underway at 20:00, soccer fans in South Africa will only get to view the game at 21:00.

This is not the first time that South Africa’s national public broadcaster has failed to secure the home fans the opportunity to view the game live.

SABC’s spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago said that they attempted to broadcast the game live, however, due to technical reasons, the game will be delayed by an hour.

“We had problems with the equipment in Zimbabwe. We were setting-up our equipment but it did not correspond with our co-broadcasters in Zimbabwe.  We tried to make it work, but it didn't.

“Instead of attempting to broadcast the game live with the possibility of it being problematic, we decided to record the first-half and then play it off our system,” expressed Kganyago.

  • stoute.babuseng - 2011-11-15 15:11

We used to the incompetence of SABC nothing new to us, they rather televise that crap called Generubbish

  • Sbuda - 2011-11-15 15:11

We all know this is so that they can air their precious Generations

My DSTV decoder allows me to simultaneously record something and play it back at a slight delay (you just push 'pause' for a little bit). Are we to believe that, even if we take their excuses at face value, the national government-sponsored carrier is incapable of doing the same thing for the national football team? B*llsh*t! Likely the money they were supposed to spend on securing the broadcasting rights went into someone's back pocket.

    absolute trash!

  • Spacks - 2011-11-15 16:28

Why are we always subjected to this so called delayed live? Why is this not happening on other sporting codes? Is this the case of being undermined by the public broadcaster? We sick and tired of this coz it is happening on almost all Bafana games. If its not all movies premierd on the TV, it is the bafana games. This is sad hey, very sad. Kaizer, you have DSTV at home no wonder your comments.

  • Xolani - 2011-11-15 16:50

DSTV can broadcast a game between New Zealand and Zim for cricket live for 9hours a day, 5 days a week, but SABC cant get it right for 2 hours. And that is why people do not pay their licenses. Idiots!

  • sfrancoisdevries - 2011-11-15 17:40

''due to technical reasons'' .... Then sort out the f&^%*$ difficulties...

  • Peter - 2011-11-15 18:33

  • treatwell - 2011-11-15 18:39

Why am I not surprised sabc should give up the broadcasting rights to dstv or etv, and they expect us to pay TV licenses with such poor arrangements

all the TV licence holders will agree with me that if you skip rather delay the payment for SABC,they will summon you or call to find out when are you going to make payments. There's no technical problem here.

How does SAFA, SABC etc expect the country to follow local football when they cant even air the national teams matches. First step to gain viewers, make the sport available for viewing by everyone

      Alvinah - 2011-11-15 21:50

if only there was a way to get rid of SABC channels from my TV, would definately do so and stop paying the licence fee. SABC is a shame to our beloved sport.
