Bafana flop would shame FIFA

2011-03-15 09:58

Johannesburg - It will be a huge embarrassment if Bafana Bafana fail to qualify for the 2014 SWC finals in Brazil, FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke said.

The forthright Valcke was addressing a media briefing at SAFA House soon after the last 2010 World Cup Local Organising Committee board meeting.

"We want South Africa to be at the next World Cup in Brazil. You can't just play at the World Cup finals when you are organising it," he said. "It will be a bad thing if Bafana Bafana are not with us in Brazil in 2014, especially after you hosted the last World Cup finals."

Valcke, who once again praised South Africans for a successful World Cup, said FIFA will continue helping SAFA to run their affairs more professionally in all aspects of the game.

SAFA president Kirsten Nematandani said the LOC board meeting resolved to appoint three administrators to wind up the World Cup activities - himself, Danny Jordaan and Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, two of his four deputies.

LOC chairperson Irvin Khoza was not included in the committee. Nematandani is chairing the meetings.

Jordaan said development will get a big chunk of the World Cup proceeds.

Meanwhile, Jordaan and FIFA president Sepp Blatter were on Monday night named the joint 2010 National Press Club Newsmaker of the Year winners in Pretoria.

Haha, prepare to be embarrassed. Bafana and all it's members can't even qualify for their own IQ test.

traedani - 2011-03-15 14:24 are so much of a dumb f*ck....too stupid to insult...

      Ryanbrew - 2011-03-15 14:57

Please change your name from Han Solo, you do not deserve that name after such a ridiculous comment!!!!

      Bratt - 2011-03-16 16:20

      The truth does hurt.

  • jeremy - 2011-03-15 10:09

Bafana are ranked 46th so might squeak through in 2014. But what about Qatar? They're ranked 90th - and still they get to host a World Cup! What kind of logic is that? .

      lenand40 - 2011-03-15 10:39

Decisions on hosting the world cup are not made on the basis of the FIFA rankings, rather on the ability to host the event, and make money for FIFA, as well as the attempt to spread the game around the world.

      Albo - 2011-03-15 10:42

Were`nt we ranked around there or even in the hundreds when we hosted it?

      Thabiso Muzi Radebe - 2011-03-15 11:48

we were ranking 127 when we hosted the cup

      Ryanbrew - 2011-03-15 14:59

@Thabiso Muzi Redebe Where do you get your info from, when we hosted teh World cup we were ranked 83rd!!!!! Please get your facts straight before you make useless, stupid comments!!

      Kubes - 2011-03-16 12:05

We were ranked 83RD Thabiso. Dude you must stick to SABC and PSL

      Zukisani - 2011-03-19 10:52

thabiso if that was a joke please try another one buddy that one didn't work , and kubes whats up with the psl thing , in case you haven't noticed it is getting better everyday , i know we will never reach the english premiership level ,but we will get better so here is what i suggest just sit in front of your tv and watch your epl because that is the closest you will ever get to the action

  • Gavin Mannion - 2011-03-15 10:29

what a BS statement to make, even after running the most successful WC of all time their are still people out there trying to find a problem against us. I'm backing Jeremy's point, where was Qatar in our world cup?

      Kubes - 2011-03-15 10:48

I am not slating the SA WC, it was awesome but based on stats you are incorrect so pls elaborate how this was the most successful WC of all time?

      Cire - 2011-03-15 11:48

Also curious. I'm not knocking our handling of the cup, or the public response to it - it was certainly good for SA, at home and abroad, but how do you decide it was the most successful of all time?

      Thabiso Muzi Radebe - 2011-03-15 11:51

all the matches were played from the group stages to the finals and the was not even a single prblem thats one succesfull thing about the tournament

      Ringo - 2011-03-15 13:01

Funny the perception people have of success... not too many people robbed, raped or killed, is that a success? Well organised, is that a success? First host ever not to qualify, is that a success? Depending on how low your standards are, anything is a success.

      Kubes - 2011-03-16 11:41

Thabiso - thats your basis? well the stick to PSL mate. We had the lowest amount of goals scored, Host Country did not make the second round, this WC was not the largest viewership. It was an awesome WC but not the best.

  • mupet-killer - 2011-03-15 10:35

they couldnt even qualify for afcon 2010. ironically, bafana are the only team picked totally on merit but perform worse than teams with transformation issues like the boks. put quotas on them as the team is not representative of the nation and let pitso feel what other coaches feel. ever since coming 3rd at afcon 2000, the team has achieved zero in the last decade-pathetic.

      lenand40 - 2011-03-15 11:12

Thing is, unlike rugby and cricket which had racist policies against black people, soccer had no racist policies against people of any race. Soccer was the first sporting code to be free of racism. Of course, soccer, unlike rugby, is played by more than 100 countries, as compared to 12 for both cricket and rugby combined. Perhaps that is where your confusion lies

      Ringo - 2011-03-15 13:07

@lenand40 "...compared to 12 for both cricket and rugby combined." care to name those 12? Yes, there are a lot more countries playing soccer. And yes, SA have world class sportsmen in a vast variety of sports, but somehow soccer is not one of them. Why would that be?

      Zukisani - 2011-03-19 11:07

ringo . i hear your point ,but to compare cricket which has 50 countries or less recognised by icc , rugby has 96 countries recognised by irb , now you compare those sporting codes with a game which is so global , i think we should be glad but not satisfied that we are on 46 in the world ,because we are not the best in soccer even though we are one of the best when it comes to producing skillful players . you need to get that in your thick skulls

  • Africanbiohazard - 2011-03-15 10:39

Ok, Jerome, by the same logic and standards, I hope you say the same to Russia and Qatar ..not exactly permanent fixtures every world cup now are they?

  • jiamalunga - 2011-03-15 10:41

The new regime destroyed soccer over the years, They will not come close!

  • Ralph - 2011-03-15 10:50

    This article makes no sense.

  • Stylin - 2011-03-15 10:55

I've come to the realisation that the worse they do, the less it's going to cost me .. So come on Bafana Bafana - keep up the good work!!

  • CNA-LOL-BS - 2011-03-15 10:57

They are useless!!! They only got into the 2010 SWC because SA was the host country!

      Mizer - 2011-03-15 11:03

You know nothing about soccer so shut up.

      lenand40 - 2011-03-15 11:12

That is how hosts get into world cup, you ninny

      Chief Belebe - 2011-03-15 11:27

He's right, they're totally useless and wait till they prove to you after failing to qualify for Brazil...U'll see! the thing is soccer is not about beautiful stadias, big mouth supporters or let alone tycoons who run the business rather the perfomance of the team to yield better results, period. And if i see Bafana Bafana are not any near all that, they're just a bunch of overated players who comes and go before our own eyes like a flash and coupled with neverending SAFA's politics i'm afraid to say that there haven't been any progress since '96.

  • Ntsikei - 2011-03-15 11:10

This is crap, the fact is we will qualify for the 2014 Brazil WC............sadly the like of Han Solo lack IQ football U qualify to be in a world cup, not like in other sports played by few countries.......U go to World Cup even if U play kak! we're leading group G as we speak!

      Ryanbrew - 2011-03-15 15:17

I agree with you about the likes of Han solo etc. and most of the people who are making comments here are not even aware of our steady progress up the FIFA rankings over the last year, or of our position in qualifying for AFCON next year (leading group G)!!!! We have lots to be proud of. But I must disagree with you WRT the other sporting codes... you get into the other sports WC based on your world ranking (Cricket and Rugby), the first 10 nations in the world automatically qualify. all the other nations have to go through a qualification process. For your info cricket is played at 3 main levels, Test nations, Ascociate nations and Affiliate nations. (Ireland Kenya Netherlands etc are Ascociate nations - there are 35 Ascociate nations and the Affiliate nations total 60 nations). Not every team making to the WC will be good (are Kak as you claim), but sometimes cause an upset, like Ireland in the 2007 WC. But then again not every nation that makes it to the SWC is good (eg. North Korea, Honduras etc), who qualified but were not very good in the WC at all. In fact each SWC has had its whipping boys too, think Saudi Arabia a few years ago...

  • El Cid - 2011-03-15 11:10

Banana Banana....LOL@Han Solo....good one!!! FIFA=Thugs; SAFA=Clowns. A remake of IT? The only thing that Banana Banana will qualify for is a loss. They seem to have the uncanny ability to lack talent and skill for the game. Maybe they should take up poker?

  • rimmoah - 2011-03-15 11:15

perhaps if we employ a home grown coach instead of overpaid and overated brazilian coaches we might qualify.second to that safa will no doubt send over a hundred officials to the world cup at an exhorbitant that could be better spent elsewhere.whatever happened to the 1 billion fifa gifted safa as a parting thank you(after we the taxpayer footed the 50 billion bill to host the games)

      Rushour - 2011-03-15 11:38

Hey you moron. the current couch is local. second all countries that qualify get a stipended from FIFA of abou $10m for costs related to going to WC so no cost to you moron. The article has just explained that FIFA has set up a committee to manage the R700m that they have given to SA for hosting the WC. Get your facts straight before spewing your uninformed diatribe.

      Point Blank - 2011-03-15 11:43

Our coach is local you stupid moron.... hahahaha!! Goes to show just how much people actually know about their own frigging sports teams... this has to be the post of the day for me!!!

  • Xysecret - 2011-03-15 11:22

Considering the Brilliant stadiums that were built and the fact that SAFA make a packet out of the whole thing, our domestic league has to get up to scratch , surely that can happen now , watching the chiefs - pirates clash @ FNB , I couldnt believe it was the same pitch that hosted the WC Final only 8 months ago , you won't find that happening at Wembly.

  • Squeeze - 2011-03-15 11:51

Just a thought!!!!! Why must our rugby team have 50% black players in, but the soccer team does not have to have 50% whites. If more white people were selected, we might rank higher and might not have to worry about qualifying. Racist basterds, i really hope SA soccer does not see another WC before this is done.

      Ryanbrew - 2011-03-15 15:34

What a chop!!! Just having White players will not improve things better. I think the racist here is the person who just made the comment!!! However the principle of representation of players from all races that Govt wants, should be applied through all sports codes, not just a select few!

      Zukisani - 2011-03-19 11:22

you stupid f*** if you take a look at our soccer team you will see that it does to a certain level reflect our demography we have xhosa, sotho, zulu, coloureds and we do have white players and if you take a look at cricket or rugby you will see that they dont match our soccer team in reflecting our demography

  • traedani - 2011-03-15 14:29

Funny how some people don't comment when Headlines say Bafana climb up the ranks...Bafana Unbeaten since Mosimane took over(I knw USA won against them...not beat them)......Bafana thump Kenya...Now the headline is not even about what Bafana did and people jump up posting negative comments....i have a suggestion...go back to your hole and keep scratchin you balls till they turn pale or yellow or pink...ohhh did i say pink? yes suckers

      mpho30 - 2011-03-17 13:35

I know right? The reality is that even if Bafana qualify they will say we won't win, nothing is ever good enough. They are also forgeting that before we hosted the world cup we qualified for two previous ones...I feel sorry for them...they must really hate their lives.

  • gizzy - 2011-03-15 14:50

They will miss it or if they get there they won't pass the qualifying rounds. Suck it up!
