Cape Town - Bafana Bafana have slipped down the latest FIFA rankings, dropping one place when the latest World Rankings were released by FIFA on Thursday.

South Africa are now ranked as the world's 70th best side but there was a slight silver lining for the national team with Shakes Mashaba's side having risen two spots to sit in 16th place in the African rankings. This is due to Zambia and Burkino Faso dropping down the rankings.

Mashaba continues his slow re-development of the national team with some progress being made after the country's disastrous COSAFA Cup exit. Despite being hit by squad withdrawals, Bafana Bafana managed to ease past Mauritius in their first CHAN 2016 qualifier, winning 5-0 on aggregate. South Africa also managed to beat Angola in a friendly in June.

At the top of the rankings, World Cup 2014 winners Germany have fallen off top spot with Copa America runners-up Argentina rising two places to claim top spot.

There has been somewhat of a shuffle at the top of the rankings with Romania the surprise inclusion in the Top 10 after rising four places in the latest rankings.

England and Wales round out the Top 10 after rising six and twelve places respectively.

Chile, who ended almost 100 years of Copa America pain by winning the 2015 edition on home soil, rose eight places to sit in eleventh spot on the global rankings.

Algeria (19th) and Ivory Coast (21st), who have both risen on the global rankings, remain first and second on the continental rankings.
