Cape Town - Bafana Bafana's progress through the 2015 AFCON qualification phase was one of the best in all the groups.

Shakes Mashaba's side were just a few minutes away from a historic win on Nigerian soil before Sone Aluko scored his second of the night and the Super Eagles' face-saving equaliser.

Aluko's brace meant that Bafana Bafana only conceded three goals during the group stage. Sudan's Salah Ibrahim was the other player to beat Darren Keet in AFCON 2015 qualifying.

Only four teams conceded fewer goals than South Africa, they were Cameroon (1), Senegal (1), Tunisia (2) and Zambia (2).

Gabon, Cameroon and Tunisia joined Bafana Bafana as the only sides to remain unbeaten in the qualifying phase.

South Africa managed to rack up nine goals during qualification with Tokelo Rantie leading the goal-scoring charts for South Africa on four goals.

Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Ghana, Guinea and Zambia were the only teams to outscore Bafana Bafana.

Shakes Mashaba's side remained unbeaten in their six matches, notching up 12 points in Group A with three wins and three draws.

Algeria, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Tunisia and Senegal were the five teams to better South Africa's points return.

South Africa's goal difference of +6 was only bettered by two sides, Cameroon (+8) and Senegal (+7).

The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations takes place in Equatorial Guinea from January 17 to February 8.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
