WATCH: Bafana showed character in win over Egypt - Zungu

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu said they showed character in their stunning 1-0 win over their much-fancied opponents and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosts Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium, on Saturday.

Thembinkosi Lorch scored on 85 minutes to give South Africa a shock victory over Egypt after a pulsating last-16 clash in Cairo.

Zungu said he was happy with their performance against a very good Egyptian side and that they were looking forward to facing Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

"Very big performance from our team," Zungu said. "We played against a very good opponent who have a number of good players and our tactics were spot on. I'm very happy with the performance of the team.

"With regards to Nigeria, we'll start watching their videos tomorrow, they're a good team but for now I'm just happy with this win and we'll start focusing on Nigeria tomorrow."

"In my opinion, Nigeria has good midfielders with a solid attack and midfielders who can play and I cannot just pick one player as their main threat."

"For us, it's just important to have confidence going up against Nigeria because we are a good team and we showed character tonight and hopefully we'll carry on from here, try to improve, continue to be humble and take each game as it comes."
