Bafana in Pot 2 for AFCON 2021 qualifiers

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana have been placed in Pot 2 of the qualifying phase for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced.

With this year's tournament still underway in Egypt (the final between Algeria and Senegal is set for Friday) the football governing body revealed the five pots for the 2021 qualifiers.

There will be a preliminary round for all of the nations (eight teams) in Pot 5, Africa's football body revealed on Twitter.

A team will be drawn from Pot 5 to play against a team that will be drawn from the same pot. This procedure will be repeated for the 6 remaining teams of Pot 5.

The winners of the 4 sets of matches will qualify for the group stage and will automatically go to the positions A4, B4, C4 and D4.

Meanwhile, having been stripped of hosting 2019 AFCON due to a lack of preparation, Cameroon will now welcome 23 other nations for the 33rd edition in 2021.
