The Black Stars surrendered their two goals advantage, on penalties, and went on to suffer a 9-8 defeat after a goalless stalemate at the Estadio de Bata in Equatorial Guinea.

Kuffour, 38, however gave credit to the Ghanaian team, stating that they "tried their best" as a team, but were just "unlucky".

“I’m very sad and disappointed,” said Kuffour.

“It’s very disappointing, not only for me but the whole country of Ghana.

“But it's football, the boys did their best and we were just unlucky again.

“Now we just have to move on and focus on the next tournament in 2017.

“I know it will not be easy because our boys will find it hard to accept this defeat.

“But credit must go to them; they fought hard until the end.”
