Hunt hopes for Vilakazi impact

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes Sibusiso Vilakazi could take a step closer to realising his dream of playing abroad with a good showing at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Students striker has been strongly tipped with making a move overseas following his outstanding performances in the Premiership over the past two seasons.

And Hunt believes the Bafana Bafana international could catch the eye of one or two scouts if he is able to carry his club form over onto the international stage.

"I did have a chat with him (Vilakazi) prior to their [South Africa's] departure [to AFCON]. Just a general chat, nothing much; I'm not one of those to talk too much. I just wished him well and [said to] put his head down," Hunt said.

"You don't have to say too much but he certainly needs a lot of work. For me I hope he have a good AFCON because then the doors can open and something will happen."

Hunt also took great pride in the fact there are two Wits players in Shakes Mashaba's AFCON squad, with Vilakazi joined by club-mate Thulani Hlatshwayo in Equatorial Guinea, where Bafana get their campaign under way against Algeria on Monday.

"I don't think Wits have had so many national team players for a long time," added the coach.

"All I can do is to try and help them and work with them and make them better. Hopefully we will get more in the national team."
