Johannesburg - Soccer fans were critical of Bafana Bafana's goalless draw with Cape Verde Islands in the opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations at Soccer City on Saturday night.
"The performance was absolutely pathetic. It appears that Bafana did not know what they were doing in every area of the field," said Collin Francis from Lenasia.
Another soccer enthusiast Kgotlaetsho Motsupe of Mafikeng said it was unlikely that Bafana would win the tournament.

"We are still far. I don’t think we are going to win this tournament. We really performed below par tonight.
"We do play and our defence is good but we cannot score."
Lucky Momagogodi of Kagiso was also not pleased with the team.
"I’m disappointed with tonight’s performance."
Despite this, Momagogodi would still attend Bafana Bafana games in Johannesburg.
“I do believe we are going to progress beyond the group stages,” he said.
After the match, some fans walked a short distance to the parking area and spoke about the game.
A few blamed the draw on the quality of Bafana players.
