DRC do not fear Malabo crowd

Malabo - Coach Florent Ibenge says Democratic Republic of Congo do not have "the slightest fear" about playing at the Malabo stadium where crowd violence marred an Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.

The Congolese are scheduled to face hosts Equatorial Guinea Saturday at the 15 000-capacity Estadio de Malabo in a third-place play-off.

Several Ghanaian supporters were slightly injured Thursday when attacked by missile-throwing Equatoguineans frustrated at a poor display by the host nation.

Ghana romped to a 3-0 victory after a game delayed more than 30 minutes near the end as security personnel battled to end the chaos.

But Ibenge was unperturbed as he told reporters in Malabo: "We are only thinking about football and winning the game.

"We know things happen in football, but these incidents are tiny in relation to the number of games staged around the world.

"We don't have the slightest fear and we are going to turn up to present football in a good light and to win our match. We aren't afraid."

Ibenge said DR Congo had made "no request" for any special security measures for the players or staff.

"We're here, we are training comfortably to approach the game in the best condition tactically and psychologically to win it.

"That's the only thing that we are thinking about," said Ibenge.
