10m votes for Cup match

Johannesburg - More than 10 million votes have been cast with more than three weeks to go before the Black Label Cup, according to the company that manages FNB Stadium.

Stadium Management SA (SMSA) said on Thursday it expected a sell-out for the annual one-off match between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs on July 28.

At last year's inaugural game, SMSA said a little under 80 000 fans had turned up at the 94 000-seater stadium.

"SMSA is confident that this year's edition will be sold out," the stadium managers said in a statement.

"To cater for a capacity crowd and ensure the smooth running of the Carling Black Label Cup, SMSA is urging fans to arrive early and take full advantage of a host of parking and travel arrangements in place for match day."

The cup game boasts a unique format which allows fans to vote for the players they want in each team, and also allows spectators to make changes on the field during the match.
