Cape Town - Springbok wing JP Pietersen found out just how tough life in the French Top 14 can be when he was smoked in a tackle by Bordeaux Begles hooker Adrien Pelissie on Saturday.
Pietersen, who has 70 Test caps to his name, has been playing for Toulon after joining from England's Leicester Tigers at the start of the season.
With his side 30-21 down with 15 minutes left on the clock, Pietersen received the ball deep in his own territory and he set off on what he hoped would be one of his trademark runs.
Unfortunately, the 31-year-old had Pelissie to deal with - and he came off second best.
It was a knock that drew a chorus of groans from the commentators and the spectators, but we at Sport24 know that Pietersen is as hard as nails, and we have no doubt that he'll be just fine.
Pietersen is technically still available for Springbok selection and would be an option for coach Allister Coetzee on the end-of-year tour to the northern hemisphere.
Toulon, meanwhile, went on to lose the match 30-26.
