Cape Town - Springbok hooker Bismarck du Plessis was at the centre of a massive brawl while on duty for Montpellier against Glasgow Warriors in a European Champions Cup clash on Saturday.
The incident happened in the 79th minute of the match and resulted in referee JP Doyle being knocked to the ground.
Du Plessis was at the heart of the altercation and, along with Ruaridh Jackson of the Warriors, was shown a yellow card to miss the final few moments of the contest.
Montpellier won the match 36-26 in the end.
Du Plessis has not featured for the Springboks since the 2015 Rugby World Cup but, with 79 Test caps to his name, the 33-year old can still feature for the Boks in 2018 if needed despite being based overseas.
In Du Plessis's absence, Adriaan Strauss took over as first-choice Springbok hooker in 2016 while that position very much belongs to Malcolm Marx now.
