SuperSport to broadcast Joost memorial

Cape Town - The memorial service for former Springbok Joost van der Westhuizen will be broadcast live on SuperSport 1 from 12:00 on Friday, February 10.

Official proceedings will start at 12:30.

SuperSport will also stream the event which will end at 15:30.

The ceremony will include a host of guest speakers and dignitaries, and will also feature tributes by a selection of Joost’s favourite artists.

SA Rugby has also called on all Springbok supporters to wear green and gold gear on Friday, in remembrance of Van der Westhuizen. 

The church service which precedes the memorial service will not be televised.

Van der Westhuizen, 45, passed away after losing his battle with motor neuron disease (MND).

He was initially rushed to hospital in a critical condition last Saturday.

Despite stabilising and showing signs of acknowledging those around him, he passed away on Monday afternoon.

Guests are urged to arrive at the stadium early from 10:30 in order to ensure a smooth and dignified ceremony.

Parking will be available at:

•  Pretoria Technical High School with access via Wessels Street (A shuttle service from school to stadium will be available)
•  Pretoria Girls High School with access via Park Street
•  Pretoria East NG Church with access via Lynnwood Road
