Stade duo banned for eye gouging

Paris - Stade Francais hooker Laurent Sempere was banned for 15 weeks and his teammate Paul Gabrillagues for eight for eye gouging in a European Champions Cup game against Leicester.

The pair were handed their punishments after a European Rugby organisers' disciplinary commission hearing in London on Wednesday.

Stade manager Gonzalo Quesada took to Twitter to denounce the sanctions as "a farce".

Sempere was found guilty of the offence on Tigers prop Marcos Ayerza while second row Gabrillagues was in the dock for eye gouging prop Dan Cole.

Sempere will miss the Champions Cup quarter-final against Leicester, who lost Sunday's game 36-21, on April 9.

Gabrillagues can return to action on March 21.

Also appearing at the hearing was Leicester hooker Tom Youngs, who was suspended for one week for punching Stade prop Rabah Slimani.

Another Stade player, Fijian Josaia Raisuqe, has already picked up a 15-week ban for eye gouging in his Top 14 side's 27-7 win over Munster on January 9.
