Scotland international Du Preez undergoes throat surgery

Cape Town - South African-born Scotland international Cornell du Preez had to undergo emergency throat surgery following his side's loss to Wasps on Saturday.

The 27-year-old loose forward, who plays for Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership, was said to be in a "stable" condition, though the injury was considered serious.

It is not clear exactly what happened, but Worcester confirmed that Du Preez required further surgery to his larynx.

Worcester Director of Rugby Alan Solomons, the man who initially lured Du Preez to Scotland, describe the injury as "major" and expressed his concern for the player.

Du Preez was born in Port Elizabeth and played for the SA U-20 side, but he has been plying his trade in Scotland since 2013.

In 2017, he made his debut for Scotland against England at Twickenham in what would be his first of six Test matches.
