According to the Stuff website, Sale were understood to be circling the 27-year-old, who is off contract at the end of the year, withreports suggesting Retallick has been offered a £1 million (R17.5m) deal following this year's Rugby World Cup.
The report suggested that Retallick would spend a few seasons with the club so that he could return to New Zealand in time for the 2023 World Cup.
The reported offer would have made Retallick one of the highest paid players in the world, with former All Black Charles Piutau currently holding the title after becoming the first £1m-a-year player when he signed with Bristol.
However, Retallick shut down the speculation in an Instagram story on Tuesday.
"No one thought to ask but no I'm not going to be playing for Sale ... not that I know off [sic] anyway," he said.
