As global sport seeks to navigate its way through the havoc being caused by the coronavirus crisis, Castle has come in for heavy criticism with Rugby Australia's dire financial situation having been exposed in recent days.
Rennie, who is currently in Scotland with Glasgow Warriors, was due to start his tenure as Wallabies coach ahead of a two-Test series against Ireland in July.
Those July internationals might not go ahead, but according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, Rennie would consider his future role with the Wallabies if Castle was sacked.
Castle herself has taken a 50% pay cut in an effort to counter the financial impacts that have come with the coronavirus while there have been pay cuts all through the Rugby Australia organisation.
