Owens to ref European Champions Cup final

London - Nigel Owens will referee the European Champions Cup final between Paris-based Racing 92 and London club Saracens in Lyon, southeast France, on May 14, organisers said on Friday.

His appointment means the Welshman will be in charge of European club rugby union's showpiece match for a record fifth time, with Owens set to complete a notable 'double' this season after already refereeing the World Cup final between New Zealand and Australia at Twickenham in October.

Owens has been in the middle for a record 103 European club rugby games and next month will see him adding to his 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2015 appearances in the final.

Tournament organisers European Professional Club Rugby added that Ireland's John Lacey would be the referee for the second-tier European Challenge Cup final between London's Harlequins and French side Montpellier which also takes place in Lyon, on May 13.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
