Ospreys' Evans gets 4-week ban after 37-second red card

London - Ospreys fullback Dan Evans has been suspended for four weeks following his exceptionally early red card in last weekend's European Champions Cup defeat by Racing 92, the tournament organisers announced on Wednesday.

Evans was ordered off the field after just 37 seconds on Saturday in one of the quickest dismissals ever seen in professional rugby union when his boot collided with the head of Racing winger Teddy Thomas.

The pair were competing for a high ball in an eventual 40-19 win for the Parisians in a Pool Four encounter.

An independent disciplinary hearing upheld the red card finding Evans guilty of a "reckless" act of foul play.

Officials selected eight weeks as the 'entry point' for a suspension but reduced it to four after taking into account Evans' guilty plea and "timely expression of remorse".

Both Evans, 31, and competition organisers European Professional Club Rugby have the right to appeal the decision.

Uncapped Evans is now set to miss the Ospreys' Pro 14 matches against Welsh rivals Cardiff Blues, Scarlets and the Dragons before being clear to play again on January 6.
