Lyon - Pierre Mignoni penned a five-year extension as Lyon coach on Monday after overseeing their promotion to the Top 14 and overseeing a flying start to the current campaign.

Lyon are third in the French top flight, just a point behind leaders Montpellier, after five games under the 40-year-old former France scrumhalf.

"I believe ever more strongly in the Lyon project," said Mignoni, who spent four years as defensive coach at Toulon.

"I was a little afraid of the length of the contract at first but I want to take Lyon to the very top of French rugby," said the coach whose new deal runs until 2023.
