London - Italy centre Michele Campagnaro and Wales hooker Scott Baldwin will play for Harlequins next season, the English Premiership club announced on Tuesday.

Campagnaro, who will join after the 2019 World Cup in Japan, is a regular in the Azzurri midfield, where he has accumulated 42 caps and was a member of the team condemned to a wooden-spoon finish in the recent Six Nations.

The 26-year-old currently plays for Wasps and also spent three seasons at Exeter, helping the Chiefs win the 2016-17 Premiership title.

"Michele is a seasoned international and a Premiership winner who will add top-level experience to our playing group," Quins head of rugby Paul Gustard said.

Fellow signing Baldwin, who will play in the 2019/20 season, is currently with Welsh regional side the Ospreys, with whom he won the 2012 Pro 14 title.

The 30-year-old almost had his career ended in bizarre fashion in 2017 when a lion he tried to pet at a Bloemfontein safari park bit him on the hand, but luckily missed all the tendons and ligaments.

"There is something special going on at Harlequins at the moment and I am looking forward to starting my Gallagher Premiership career there next season," said Baldwin, who won the last of his 34 Wales caps two years ago.

Harlequins are currently third in the 12-team Premiership, with the top four at the end of the regular season qualifying for the title-deciding play-offs.

The two arrivals follow Monday's announcement from Quins that they have signed Argentina internationals Martin Landajo and Santiago Garcia Botta for the 2019/20 campaign.
