Griquas sign former Bulls prop, WP lock

Cape Town - Griquas have announced the signing of two more players ahead of the 2019 season.

Former Bulls tighthead prop John-Roy Jenkinson will be joining Griquas on a two-year contract. He has just returned from a stint in Japan with the Sanix Blues and will be joining his new team from March 1.

Jenkinson previously represented the Leopards, Cheetahs, the SA under-20 team, as well as Maties and Pukke in the Varsity Cup.

Lock Ian Groenewald, who was a Maties player for three seasons and also represented the Western Province Vodacom Cup team during his time in Stellenbosch, has signed a two-year deal and will arrive in Kimberley on May 1.

He is currently in Italy playing for the Verona club and also had a short stint in France playing as a medical joker for Toulon.

"With a large amount of our players not currently with us in order to prepare for the fast approaching season, we really look forward to welcoming the new signings as well as the current Griquas players who are on loan with other teams so that we can commence their integration into our programme and prepare optimally," Griquas coach Brent Janse van Rensburg said via a press statement.

"This brings much needed depth and also creates healthy competition for places. We still have some positions that we are working on and time will tell if we have been successful or not in obtaining the services of those players."

Earlier this month, Griquas also announced the singing of 11 new players.
