French clubs chase star All Blacks pair

Cape Town - Former All Blacks Liam Messam and Charlie Ngatai are reportedly the latest New Zealand players being scouted by French clubs.

According to the Stuff website, Ngatai is being courted by Toulouse and Messam is being chased by Lyon.

Both are on the Chiefs' books for next year's Super Rugby season.

The Chiefs have already been particularly hard hit by an exodus of talent.

Internationals Aaron Cruden, Tawera Kerr-Barlow and Hika Elliot have all left for French deals, while James Lowe has also heading north.

One-Test All Black midfielder Ngatai has been plagued by concussion problems, but appears to be clear of them now and was in good form late in the New Zealand season.

Loose forward Messam has played 43 Tests and 161 games for the Chiefs, but is out of the Test frame now.

The Chiefs open their 2018 Super Rugby campaign against the defending champion Crusaders in Christchurch on Saturday, February 24.
