French back Camara quits Stade Francais

Paris - French international fullback Djibril Camara, facing the sack from Stade Francais over gross misconduct charges, announced on Wednesday his departure from the Top 14 club.

"I would have liked to have... ended my career at Stade Francais. Sadly that will not be possible," said the 29-year-old Camara, who joined the club as a professional in 2007.

Camara, writing on Instagram, said he was leaving with a "broken heart" following a reported rift with new coach Heyneke Meyer.

Capped four times for France, Camara was reduced to making only five appearances for the club last season under Meyer, the former Springboks coach, who was recruited by new club owner Hans-Peter Wild in 2018.

Camara had been summoned to a misconduct hearing with club officials, seen as a step prior to dismissal of the player who helped the club to the 2015 Top 14 title and the European Challenge Cup in 2017.
