Cape Town - New Stormers coach Robbie Fleck has confirmed that while the speed with which he’s ascended to Cape Town’s top rugby job has taken him by surprise, it’s a position he’s always aspired to.
Fleck appears on Wednesday's edition of The Dan Nicholl Show on SuperSport 1 at 19:00, and the former Springbok centre appears confident in his ability to take on the Stormers job.
“The opportunity came, and I didn’t think it would come this quickly,” Fleck concedes, “but I’ve always had ambitions to coach Western Province or the Stormers, and now the chance has come. We’ve worked incredibly hard, and now we’re looking forward to the campaign.”
Fleck also discusses the fleeting time Eddie Jones spent as head coach, before departing for the England coaching job.
“Eddie was in for a short stint, and all of us were excited about what we were going to with Eddie,” Fleck explains.
But then he fantastic opportunity to coach England cam along. I actually asked him if he had space in his suitcase when he left!”
Fleck gets a strong endorsement from two familiar faces in the studio audience, Siya Kolisi and Scarra Ntubeni, who also relish having some fun at the expense of their new coach.
Fleck is joined on tonight’s show by South Africa’s top women’s EFC fighter Danella Eliasov, who discusses life in the ring, and her day job as a psychiatrist; and one of South Africa’s foremost media celebrities, DJ Fresh, who gets offered a Stormers training session by Fleck.
Wedneday’s show also includes exclusive footage of toast weekend’s Snow Bike Festival in Gstaad, Switzerland.
