Ex-Bok Faffa Knoetze joins players' organisation

Cape Town - Former Springbok and Western Province centre Faffa Knoetze has been appointed as the new chairperson of the MyPlayers board.

MyPlayers is the South African rugby players’ organisation responsible for the management of the collective interests and purpose of all the professional rugby players in South Africa

The 55-year-old will take over the role of Louis von Zeuner, who undertook this position for four years.

Knoetze is an actuary at Remgro Limited which he joined at the end of 2013. In his role at Remgro, he focuses on the company’s interests in the insurance, banking and sport industries. He is a non-executive director on the boards of a number of companies, such as FirstRand Limited and the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport (SAS).

Eugene Henning, managing director of MyPlayers, welcomes Knoetze’s appointment and is looking forward to working with him.

“Faffa has significant experience as a leader in the financial and sport industry. We highly value his insights and expertise and his involvement would be a huge asset for the players organisation,” said Henning.

Knoetze, who led his first players meeting in Johannesburg on Wednesday, commented: “It’s a great privilege to join the players organisation and I’m looking forward to working with the MyPlayers team. I hope that I can make a valuable contribution during my term by serving the interest of the players to the best of my ability."

Knoetze is a qualified actuary and holds a B.Com (Hons) degree from the University of Stellenbosch.
