Cape Town - Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers has agreed to undertake a role in Namibia where he will assist with the development of emerging coaches and sport stars.

According toNetwerk24, De Villiers was offered a position as development coach with the Trustco Centre of Excellence.

He accepted the offer as he felt his services and coaching experience were not wanted in South Africa.

“I was willing to do it in South Africa, especially with the knowledge I have gained through courses in America and England. I also wanted to share my own experience as Springbok coach, but I was never given the opportunity,” said De Villiers.

“I don’t think there is interest in that in South Africa.”

De Villiers has struggled to find work after his contract as director of rugby at the University of the Western Cape was not renewed last year.

He was appointed by UWC in 2012 but was replaced by Chester Williams last year.

De Villiers coached the Springboks between 2008 and 2011, with his most notable achievements being a Tri-Nations win in 2009 as well as a series win over the British and Irish Lions that same year.
