Cambridge end Oxford's run in Varsity clash

London - Flyhalf Fraser Gillies's haul of 13 points helped Cambridge University end Oxford University's record seven-match winning streak in the Varsity match at Twickenham with a thrilling 23-18 victory on Thursday.

Both teams scored two tries apiece with Cambridge centres Mike Phillips and Rory Triniman and Henry Hughes and Ed David of Oxford crossing.

Oxford kicker Basil Strang added eight points in what was the 135th edition of the historic match.

Oxford did get the better of Cambridge in the women's match prevailing by the astonishing score of just 3-0.

The 'Dark Blues' defence proved the difference in the face of a Cambridge onslaught pulling off 236 tackles with fullback Sophie Trott the star of the show by preventing three try-scoring opportunities.

Oxford skipper Catherine Wilcock kicked the only points of the match.
