Bordeaux sign Irish flyhalf Madigan

Bordeaux - Ireland flyhalf Ian Madigan has signed a two-year deal to join French Top 14 side Bordeaux-Begles at the start of next season, the club announced on Monday.

"Ian showed a great desire to join UBB, he wants to take on a new sporting challenge," said Bordeaux president Laurent Marti.

"He and his family already know the area very well having been coming here regularly for several years. Ian can already communicate very well in French."

Madigan, 26, is currently the understudy to Johnny Sexton in the Irish national team but can also play at fullback and centre.

He has spent his entire career at Leinster since making his professional debut with the Irish province in 2009 and was the most accurate kicker in last season's Pro 12.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
