Bok prop extends French stay

Cape Town - Springbok prop Jannie du Plessis has extended his contract with Montpellier by a season, the French club announced on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old, who played 70 Tests for the Springboks, joined Montpellier in 2015 along with his brother Bismarck.

Meanwhile, Montpellier also announced that Georgian prop Levan Chilachava has joined them from Toulon on a three-year contract.

Chilachava, 26, came through the youth training centre at Toulon, where he had spent nine seasons.

The Georgian will be one of three tighthead props at Montpellier along with Du Plessis and Antoine Guillamon, who is in rehabilitation after a hernia operation.

Chilachava will be one of eight recruits signed up by coach Vern Cotter, including South African utility back Johan Goosen and Brive lock Julien Le Devedec.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
