Ackermann's message to Lions

Cape Town - Lions coach Johan Ackermann has urged his players to stick to their structures when they play warm-up games on Saturday.

Ackermann on Thursday named a squad of 45 players for two warm-up games at the Barnard Stadium in Kempton Park.

The Lions will play against the Valke and Leopards, with the kick-off times scheduled for 14:30 (v Valke) and 16:15 (v Leopards).

“I don’t want the guys to be individualistic. They must be able to stand out in a team set-up,” Ackermann told Netwerk24.

“Everyone must be able to compete for spots in our starting team. I want to see where we stand with regards to attack, defence and our general play.”

“Every player will get about 55 minutes of game time. The scoreline is not of importance, but rather how the players function in their combinations.”

Team 1 will be led by Warren Whiteley, while Jaco Kriel will captain Team 2.

Three players - Harold Vorster, Derick Minnie and Lionel Mapoe - were not considered because of injuries.

Lions squad:

Ruan Ackermann, JW Bell, Fabian Booysen, Marnitz Boshoff, Cyle Brink, Andries Coetzee, Robbie Coetzee, Ruan Combrinck, Ross Cronje, Ashlon Davids, Faf de Klerk, Bobby de Wee, Stephan De Witt, Ruan Dreyer, Lourens Erasmus, Andries Ferreira, Corne Fourie, Stokkies Hanekom, Rohan Janse van Rensburg, Elton Jantjies, Jaco Kriel, Robert Kruger, Ruan Lerm, MB Lusaseni, Kock Marx, Malcolm Marx, Sampie Mastriet, Howard Mnisi, Franco Mostert, Martin Muller, Jacques Nel, Julian Redelinghuys, Cameron Rooi, Jarryd Sage, Pieter Scholtz, Courtnall Skosan, Dillon Smit, Dylan Smith, Warwick Tecklenberg, Armand van der Merwe, Gerdus van der Walt, Jaco van der Walt, Jacques van Rooyen, Anthony Volmink, Warren Whiteley
