Cape Town - An article appearing in respected US news outlet the Washington Post has slammed Fikile Mbalula over his Twitter antics.
As it happened: South Africa run in 10 tries against America's Eagles
The SA Minister of Sport and Recreation is well known for his social media style which often creates controversy.
The controversy has now spread across the Atlantic Ocean after his "razzmatazz" behaviour was picked up by the American news agency.
Mbalula tweeted up a storm before, during and after the Springboks' final Rugby World Cup Pool B clash against the USA on Wednesday.
The Washington Post article labeled Mbalula's tweets as "trash talk".
The article said that "Politicians aren’t known for their realness, at least in the United States." before adding "But things must work differently in South Africa because Fikile Mbalula, the country’s minister of sport and recreation, left nothing on the table when it came to expressing his glee on Twitter over the Springboks 64-0 shutout of the United States during their Rugby World Cup match on Wednesday."
The article then highlighted a few of Mbalula's tweets:

The article then continued with "Now, I know exactly what you’re thinking: 'This can’t be real.' But then you don’t know Mbalula." before highlighting how Mbalula warned the Springboks - a team his passionately supports - that they run the risk of becoming a "bunch of losers" after their shocking loss to Japan in their opening game of the Rugby World Cup.
