A few jitters, but all in all, a powerful display from the Boks. Not much past 12, but forwards carried well, and that is the Bok game— Front Row Grunt (@FrontRowGrunt) October 3, 2015

South Africa 23 Scotland 16

Cynical foul by Laidlaw as Habana hacks ahead and chases, the Scottish captain takes him down without the ball.

The Springboks worked their way into the Scottish 22m area, Pollard dropped back into the pocket and slotted a drop goal from right in front, around 35m out.
South Africa 23 Scotland 13
49' - Conversion slotted by Laidlaw!
South Africa 20 Scotland 13
48' - TRY to Scotland!
Seymour is the try scorer but that's all thanks to Weir as he takes an intercept from a Pollard pass. Pietersen scrambled back in defence but Weir managed to get the ball to Visser who then found Seymour.
South Africa 20 Scotland 11
45' - PENALTY slotted by Laidlaw!

Boks far from clinical, and with a Jannie in the bin, but 20-3 up. Decent half that. #RWC2015— Ben Karpinski (@followthebounce) October 3, 2015

HALF-TIME AT ST JAMES' PARK
Springboks 20 Scotland 3
39' - CONVERSION slotted by Pollard!
South Africa 20 Scotland 3
38' - TRY to the Springboks!
The maul eventually goes to ground, Du Preez finds Pietersen with a brilliantly time pass as the winger comes on a flying run close to the collapsed maul and he forces his way over!
South Africa 18 Scotland 3
South Africa tried for the bonus point but Scotland got back first to Habana's kick through. Still, the Springboks move top of Pool B and know a win over the USA will seal that position. Scotland need a win over Samoa to book their own place in the last eight.
SOUTH AFRICA 34-16 SCOTLAND!
It won't happen on this attack, as Scotland are penalised for truck and trailer. South Africa look like they'll be happy with the four points but have a final minute to see out.
Scotland have a penalty and Weir fires off a fantastic kick to the corner. Can they score a try before the final whistle?
Time is ticking away and we've got a reset scrum on halfway. Scotland are trying to finish on a high but Ross Ford needs to go off to get checked out.
The conversion is off-target but South Africa have the win in the bag. Still time for them to get a bonus point.
TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, HABANA! 34-16: Chance for Habana as he has just Weir to beat but he runs straight at him and the fly-half stands up strong. It comes back to him again though after a big carry from Strauss and this time Habana is stopped then reaches over for the try.
South Africa are away again and le Roux collects a high ball to get them on the front foot. Up to the 22.
Scotland are on the attack but we''re going to come back for a tackle by Pietersen on Tim Swinson. Could be a tip?
Nigel Owens thinks it''s just a penalty, even though Swinson ended up being tipped. Could have been a card but Pietersen gets away with it, just a penalty to Scotland.
PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 29-16: Denton was the man penalised and Pollard punishes him. South Africa starting to pull away.
South Africa are picking and going through their forwards. They earn an advantage and du Preez tries the high kick and although Pietersen can't claim it, Pollard will have an easy shot at goal.
Great steal from Scotland at the lineout and they are on the charge in the Springbok 22. South Africa earn the penalty at the ruck for holding on though and can clear their lines.
Worrying for Scotland as Hogg hobbles off, although Laidlaw is back for them. The full-back hurt himself with a clearing kick earlier.
PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 26-16: Easy for Pollard and that was a soft three points conceded by Scotland.
Dave Denton is slow to roll away at a lineout and that will give South Africa a shot at goal from halfway.
PENALTY, SCOTLAND, WEIR! 23-16: With Laidlaw off, Weir takes on kicking duties and knocks it over. Again it's a one-score game and South Africa have yet to score with an extra man.
Burger comes in from the side at a maul and Scotland have advantage. Weir puts up the kick to nothing but Pietersen claims under pressure from Visser. Scotland will take the three.
Scotland are doing ok with a man down. Their job gets easier when Pietersen bats away the ball at a ruck and is spotted. Weir kicks to touch.
The Scottish maul is going nowhere and then when they try to go through the backs the inside ball gives Hogg absolutely no space. The knock-on follows and South Africa will get it back.
South Africa are the better side, but making a few mistakes. One knock-on allows Weir to clear deep and le Roux is forced into a hurried kick and Scotland have a lineout in the South African half.
South Africa kicked to the corner and were on the charge again but great work from the Scots to rip it in the tackle. Scotland try to run it out with Hogg cutting through. His pass to Seymour is well forward though and South Africa will get it back with a scrum 30 metres out.
YELLOW CARD, SCOTLAND, GREIG LAIDLAW! Disaster for Scotland as they fumble the ball out wide. Habana collects and chips through. He then kicks on again and is hauled down by Laidlaw without the ball and the Scottish skipper is off for ten.
DROP GOAL, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 23-13: No panic from South Africa who set up in Scottish territory and Pollard then drops back and slots the easy drop goal.
CONVERSION, LAIDLAW! 20-13: Laidlaw adds the conversion and it's a seven-point lead. There looked to be a tackle in the air during that last move but obviously not deemed serious enough for further punishment. The comeback is on.
TRY, SCOTLAND, SEYMOUR! 20-11: Out of nowhere Scotland are over. Weir picks off a pass in the 22, gets all the way up to the South African line. Visser then collects and finds Tommy Seymour for the try.
South Africa are on the charge again. Up into the 22 Burger carries it forward. There was a tackle in the air earlier so big problems for Scotland as the Boks keep coming...
Hogg gets caught by Mtawarira after kicking it but on the replay it's a clear dive. Poor from the Scottish full-back.
PENALTY, SCOTLAND, LAIDLAW! 20-6: Over it goes and Scotland are back to within two scores. Meanwhile Jannie du Plessis is back for South Africa who won the sin-bin period 7-3.
Poor from Scotland as the ball pops loose after Richie Gray's take in the lineout. They keep the ball but are being forced backwards. South Africa get it back but Vermeulen is penalised for coming in from the side and this time Laidlaw takes the three.
Josh Strauss is back on for Scotland. Their ball carriers are getting hammered and struggling to break the gainline though. Eventually South Africa are slow to roll away though and Scotland can cut the deficit.
Laidlaw decides against the easy three and kicks to the corner. Probably the right call when trailing by 17 and against 14 men.
Duncan Weir gets us back underway. Can Scotland turn things around?
Scotland look to have an overlap but twice Habana sprints up and Laidlaw doesn't take a chance. Instead he's swallowed up by de Jager and that will be half-time. South Africa down to 14 at the moment but in total control.
SOUTH AFRICA 20-3 SCOTLAND!
CONVERSION, POLLARD! 20-3: Pollard adds the extras and South Africa increase their lead despite being a man down.
TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, PIETERSEN! 18-3: The South African maul is dominant, and then when Scotland finally slow them, du Preez pops out and finds Pietersen on a great angle for the try.
Danger for Scotland as Laidlaw gets caught at a ruck. It pops up for Francois Louw who finds Vermeulen inside him. He can't find Habana but South Africa recover. Eventually Kriel tries a little kick through and it ricochets into touch for a South African lineout on the 22.
Le Roux is in position as Weir tries to kick for territory. He calls for the mark then clears but it will be a Scottish lineout in South African territory.
Laidlaw takes the shot at goal but doesn't have the legs and it drops just short.
Scotland get their hands on the ball but struggle to make ground. And it's worrying times for Vern Cotter with Cowan and Vernon both needing treatment.
YELLOW CARD, SOUTH AFRICA, JANNIE DU PLESSIS! South Africa are down to 14 as their tighthead prop is sin-binned for entering a ruck with his shoulder. Du Plessis seems baffled by the call.
South Africa are making ground every time they carry the ball but great work from Blair Cowan to earn the penalty. Still, Scotland need to stop those carriers at source.
De Jager gives away a penalty at the lineout and that will give Scotland the chance to get on the board. Although it's not an easy one for Laidlaw, about 45 metres out on the right.
PENALTY, SCOTLAND, LAIDLAW! 13-3: Cracking kick from Laidlaw and Scotland are on their way. Strauss is off and replaced by Ryan Wilson. Looks like a head injury assessment.
Almost danger for Scotland as Richie Vernon tries a lobbed pass which goes straight to Habana. He's got no space to sprint away for the interception score though.
PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 13-0: It's all South Africa so far.
Scotland in too slow at the ruck and are pinged in front of the posts. That will be three easy points for Pollard.
Tendai Mtawarira knocks on midfield as South Africa waste taht chance but they are still looking dangerous. Du Plessis then tries a little grubber through with Habana outside him and it doesn't go as planned.
Great work from Richie Gray to steal the lineout. That was huge for Scotland. But South Africa are back up to the 22.
South Africa decide to run the ball eventually, with de Jager making ground. Greig Laidlaw then gets pinged for blocking after chasing back on a kick. South Africa take the kick to the corner. They mean business.
Solid scrum from South Africa who clear through Pollard. The Scots try to run it up but eventually Weir goes to the boot and starts a kicking battle.
Poor ruck presentation at the ruck and Pietersen makes the easy turnover only to kick the ball straight out with an awful kick. The Scottish lineout is struggling though and they knock on under pressure.
PENALTY, SOUTH AFRICA, POLLARD! 10-0: Three more points for the Boks who are in complete control at the moment.
That is worrying for Scotland as South Africa march 20 yards forward with a maul. This will be an easy three points.
South Africa back on the front foot, but Willie le Roux's kick over the top is straight into the hands of Hogg. Scotland need to settle down a bit. The game is flying by so far.
Pietersen almost over in the corner but just stopped short. It's advantage to the Boks...
South Africa think they are over. There's a bit of a coming together and we're going to the TMO for the try...
It's Burger who almost gets it down. Du Plessis then comes in and eventually the ball gets down. Can that be called a try?
TRY, SOUTH AFRICA, BURGER! 5-0: The try is given and Burger looks to be claiming it. He and du Plessis had their hands on the ball as they forced it down. South Africa had been charging away from close range.
CONVERSION, POLLARD! 7-0: Easy extras for Pollard and South Africa are on their way.
First real danger, first from de Allende then out wide to Pietersen. Duane Vermeulen then makes a huge charge and South Africa are five metres out...
Scotland look to be away on the right, but when the ball comes back to midfield, Schalk Burger makes a cracking tackle and South Africa pile in to earn the penalty.
The scrum turns and South Africa will get the put-in. They'll be pleased with that although perhaps a tough call on WP Nel.
The lineout is a little messy, as Bismarck du Plessis disrupts, but he knocks on and it will be a Scottish scrum.
JP Pietersen is penalised for setting off in front of the kicker and that will be a first chance to get some territory for the Scots. Weir kicks up to the 22.
De Allende is through but the de Jager is penalised for going off his feet at the ruck. Danger averted for Scotland.
Big carry first up from Strauss and Hogg then tries to run the ball out of defence but throws a wide pass well forward. The first scrum will be for South Africa just outside the 22.
Great stuff from Bryan Habana who gets under a high ball ahead of Stuart Hogg and gets the Springbok on the front foot.
Good work from the Boks but Habana then knocks on as he tries to pat back a high kick. Scotland have the lineout just inside their own 22.
Hello and welcome to a massive Pool B clash between South Africa and Scotland at St James' Park. With Japan's win over Samoa, South Africa know that a loss will take their fate out of their hands. Scotland will be in the quarter-finals with a win.
South Africa have made some changes from the team that beat Samoa, with Jean de Villiers and Victor Matfield both absent through injury. Fourie du Preez captains the side, while Lood de Jager starts in the second row. Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel start together in the centres. There is also a recall for Bismarck du Plessis.
Scotland have been strong so far, but are missing the injured Finn Russell. Vern Cotter has selected a mixed team, with Duncan Weir replacing Russell. Josh Strauss and WP Nel take on their countrymen after being named in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile Nelson Mandela has been inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame for his contributions to rugby, notably in the 1995 World Cup. The Springbok captain for that tournament, Francois Pienaar, accepts the award on Mandela's behalf. A lovely gesture.
Handre Pollard gets us underway. Here we go!
