Cape Town - Former Springbok flyhalf Butch James says that Fourie du Preez is a "shy guy" and not the most vocal before matches.
9 things you didn't know about Fourie du Preez
Fourie du Preez is the 56th Springbok skipper. But who were 1 to 55?
Du Preez was named Springbok captain on Wednesday for Saturday's crucial World Cup clash against Scotland in Newcastle after Jean de Villiers was ruled out of the tournament with a fractured jaw.
And while James agrees fundamentally with the decision to appoint the 33-year-old as skipper, he did suggest on a video posted to his Twitter account that motivational speaking pre-match may not be Du Preez's strong point.
"I’m pretty happy with Fourie being captain. He probably makes 90% of the calls anyway even when he isn’t captain on the field," James said of his 2007 World Cup-winning halfback partner.
"Just one aspect of his captaincy that might have to pick up a little bit will be motivation before the game. He’s quite a shy guy and doesn’t talk a lot before a game.
"But there are a lot of senior guys around him that I’m sure he will rely on to pop in and motivate the guys before kick-off. All in all it’s a really strong Springbok team."
Kick-off on Saturday is at 17:45.
