Birmingham - Springbok loose forward Willem Alberts, a late withdrawal against Japan, faces a fitness race for next weekend's World Cup match against Samoa.

Alberts, who was initially named in the starting XV to face Japan in Brighton last Saturday, had to pull out just hours before the shock 34-32 defeat due to a calf injury.

Alberts will be assessed before the team is announced on Wednesday for the Boks' must-win clash against Samoa at Villa Park.

Kick-off is at 17:45 SA time.
