Murray likely to join Kings

2012-11-03 14:05

Cape Town - Former Springbok centre Waylon Murray looks likely to join the Southern Kings ahead of next year's Super Rugby competition, according to Die Burger's website.

The 26-year-old Murray, who played three Tests for the Boks in 2007, doesn't have a contract with the Lions anymore and was in Port Elizabeth this week to undergo fitness tests.

The Kings will play Super Rugby next year at the expense of the Lions, who were South Africa's worst performing Super Rugby team over the last few years.

Other notable recent signings from the Kings include centre Andries Strauss (Cheetahs), flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis (WP), hooker Bandise Maku (Lions) and lock Steven Sykes (Sharks).

He should take Morne Stain, maybe he can develop him into not kicking every ball away, but then he will need zane too.

Morne Stein will play for the Boks till the next World Cup. Hands-down our best flyhalf

      lean.sadie.96 - 2012-11-03 23:27

I believe Morne Steyn is the best flyhalf in world rugby.

LOL. Niks nuut, en niks belangrik nie.

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-11-05 02:56

Laat ek raai, hier kom die Kings in die S15. Iets nuuts, maar niks belangrik nie.

GO KINGS!!! Paar goeie signings reeds. Sien uit na 2013

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-11-05 02:55

Dowwe paramedic, there's a lot of WP fans on here because the cupless pink jokers like you crawled under a rock about two weeks ago. Where were you last week? Enjoyed the rugby on 27 October? Before that game WP had 32 titles. How many Currie Cup titles do they have now? Don't worry, I'll give you lots of time to work that one out. Net die antwoordjie. Next please.

Career ending move, I'd rather say.

  • adriaan.olivier.589 - 2012-11-03 16:10

      johan.vuuren.16 - 2012-11-04 11:41

      wanderering.wanderer - 2012-11-04 17:50

@mutt, the LIONS did not get R4000000 support from SARU to begin with. Are the 6 centers at the kings, bulldogs and eagles not good enough to play next year? or should I ask what about their current crop of players in the 3 unions are they not good enough? Surely their confidence as players must be catching a tremendous boost with all these signings. In rugby no team can develop players while they have to suck on the back tit while players are being imported.

      matt.prinsloo.1 - 2012-11-04 21:26

@wandering.wanker - Kings never claimed that they will field a local only team in their first year. Go have a look how many players they lured back to the province already. Yes there are plenty of players to choose from. But how many of those have SR experience? Or would you fields a team with 15 inexperienced guys? On that note, why did the Lions buy Butch James, if they had the Pumas and Leopards to choose from as well?

      chrisin.oz.1 - 2012-11-05 02:48

Matt, that is exactly the problem everyone has with the political inclusion of the Kings. Don't include them in the Super Rugby and only then do you start buying players in and expect this will be development. There has been talk of their inclusion now for a number of years. All based on the presumption that they will develop black rugby in the EC. They had at least 4 years to develop those black players, because everyone knew their inclusion would be inevitible. No black players have been developed during that time. They have not even been able to crack the Currie Cup premier division. You need to get the foundations right before you force them into S15 and then buy in a lot of players. That is nowhere near "development". And it will never be development, even if they play in the comp for 10 years.

      wanderering.wanderer - 2012-11-05 19:12

mutt.cheeky buttlicker, count the players that the LIONS took out of the varsity cup and played in S15 and the CC, then we talk stats. the problem with the kings is that for the past 6years since the promise was made to the EC, they have done nothing to improve themselfs beyond the vodacom cup and 1st division. my comment is justified and all you cheeky butt kissers know it. Mr watson promised that the ec has 1400000 black players and that the talent is wasted, now he is recruiting from all over except the ec. the kings are welcome to have waylon, and with all respect to him as reson and pro player he is a walking medical bill, since 2005 his debut year he has played for both the Sharks and the LIONS and only played in 74 matches, believe me the kings can now carry the cost. As for next year enjoy the season as I will be watching some Euro clubs playing at Ellispark.
