WP to help ex-Bok

Cape Town - The Western Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) has announced that it will be raising funds for former player, Tinus Linee, at next week's Super Rugby match between the Stormers and the Reds at Newlands.

Linee, 42, was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease (MND) last month. This is the same crippling illness former Bok skipper, Joost van der Westhuizen has been living with for the past two years.

The purpose of the fundraiser is to assist Linee with treatment and other medical costs.

In a statement on WP Rugby's website, WPRFU President Thelo Wakefield said, “Tinus is a true son of Western Province rugby and we will stand by him in his hour of need.

"But it’s not just about Tinus and helping him now - it’s about his wife and the future too. We are hoping to raise as much as possible on the day of the Reds match, but we also have a few other events planned in his honour (to help him and his wife).

“We would like to call upon all Stormers and Western Province fans to show their support for Tinus by coming to the game on the 25th and donating some money. We look forward to a great day’s rugby at Newlands - as well as a great opportunity to help one of WP’s most loyal sons."

Linee played 112 matches at centre for Western Province between 1992 and 2001, making his Springbok debut in 1993 - at the age of 23 – and went on to play nine tour matches for his country in Australia, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

Dubbed "Tinus Linee Day", the WPRFU has urged supporters to come prepared and donate generously.

Bank details can be found on the WP Rugby website, should you feel the need to contribute to the cause.
