WP could add more signings

Cape Town - Western Province coach Allister Coetzee on Thursday hinted that the union could add more players to their squad ahead of the 2015 season.

WP recently announced the signing of front row trio - hooker Bongi Mbonambi and props Vincent Koch and Wilco Louw.

All three will make their debut for WP when they tackle English club, Saracens, in London on Sunday. Koch joined from the Pumas, while Mbonambi and Louw were lured from arch-rivals, the Blue Bulls.

Coetzee spoke to Sport24 during a media briefing at WP’s High Performance Centre in Bellville on Thursday, shortly before the team departed for London.

When quizzed about any possible additions for the Stormers ahead of next year's Super Rugby competition, Coetzee said: "Well let me put it this way. It (new player signings) is never sewn up really. Obviously we are still looking at one or two positions, but I’m sure Gert (Smal, WP's Director of Rugby) will have more answers when we come back."

Coetzee said the additions could be up front as well as in the backline.

Meanwhile, Coetzee said the trip to London will give the new signings a great opportunity to bond with their new team-mates and get used to the team's systems.

"It's great to give youngsters an opportunity on tour as well because we will be going on tour in Super Rugby next year, so it will be great to expose players on tour... and also the new recruits."

Saracens are currently second in the Aviva Premiership standings after six matches, three points adrift of leaders Northampton.

Sunday's clash at Allianz Park kicks-off at 15:00 (SA time) and will be televised live on SuperSport One.
