Nelspruit - The Pumas opened the 2015 Vodacom Cup with an emphatic 57-18 win over the Griffons in the Mbombela Stadium on Friday evening, the supersport.com website reports.

The hosts ran in no less than eight tries on the day, with flanker Brian Shabangu bagging two five pointers for the Pumas and flyhalf Juan Claude Roos contributing an impressive 20 points in his side's victory.

The Pumas started the first half at ferocious pace after quick penalties by Roos and Griffons flyhalf Louis Strydom predicted a high scoring affair. The hosts dominance upfront soon paid dividends as winger Bernardo Botha rounded off as early as the ninth minute and Roos converted to give the Pumas a solid lead.
