Cape Town - Flyhalf Demetri Catrakilis kicked 20 points as Western Province beat Eastern Province Kings 30-25 (halftime 11-19) in their Vodacom Cup match at City Park in Cape Town on Saturday.
The Kings were 25-11 up after 25 minutes in the second half but a strong tail-wind and the accurate boot of Catrakilis saw the homeside reduce the deficit to 25-23.
And Western Province sealed the come-from-behind victory in the last movement of the game when centre JP du Plessis scored a try after several phases. Catrakilis slotted the conversion to add to his six penalties on the day. A try in the first half by left wing Ederies Arendse completed Western Province's scoring.
Eastern Province tried admirably to hold onto their lead but penalties at the breakdown and fine tactical kicking display by Western Province proved to be their undoing.
Centre Scott van Breda and speedy right wing Andile Witbooi scored tries for Eastern Province and Van Breda also managed two penalties. Flyhalf Justin van Staden kicked two penalties and drop goal.
The win sees Western Province top the South Section standings on 13 points from their three matches while the Kings earned a bonus point to tie pull level with the Sharks in second spot on 11 points.
