Blue Bulls flatten Valke

Johannesburg - The Blue Bulls stormed to a 74-14 win over the Valke in their Vodacom Cup North Section match at Hugenote High School in Springs on Saturday.

Left wing Sampie Mastriet ran in four of the Blue Bulls' 12 tries to hand the Valke their third loss in five matches while the Blue Bulls improved their record to three wins from five games.

The hosts managed two tries of their own in reply, through scrumhalf Anrich Richter and flyhalf Jaun Kotze.

Flank Wian Liebenberg, right wing Travis Ismail and replacement centre Courtnall Skosaan all crossed for two tries each.

The Blue Bulls opened the scoring in the sixth minute when Liebenberg rumbled over for his first try.

Mastriet scored his first try in the 12th minute before the Valke hit back with a converted try from Richter seven minutes later.

However, the try proved to be the Valke's only score in the first half before Mastriet, fullback Clayton Blommetjies and Liebenberg all dotted down before half-time as the visitors reached the break leading 38-7.

The floodgates opened in the second half with the Blue Bulls running in six second-half tries.

The hosts managed a single try in the second half when Kotze dotted down in the 51st minute before he converted his own try.

Scorers:

Valke - Tries: Anrich Richter, Jaun Kotze; Conversions: Kotze (2).

Blue Bulls - Tries: Sampie Mastriet (4), Clayton Blommetjies, Wian Liebenberg (2), Travis Ismail (2), Courtnall Skosaan (2), Piet Lindeque; Conversions: Willie du Plessis (7).
