Varsity Cup match called off due to pitch invasion

Cape Town - The Varsity Cup match between NMU Madibaz and Maties was called off on Monday night after a pitch invasion.

With Maties leading in 19-0 early in the second half, a number of spectators entered the field of play which led to the officials stopping play.

Maties were later declared the winners of the fixture with further play not possible.

The win sees the Stellenbosch side secure a home semi-final.

Earlier, Maties had scored three first half tries through Johan Momsen, Logan Boonzaaier and Munier Hartzenberg.

Chris Smit added two conversions.
