Cape Town - Pukke scored a deserved victory of 43-38 over CUT in Bloemfontein this evening, after they led 31-10 at half time.
Pukke ran in seven tries to five but the Ixias fought back valiantly in the second half.
After last week’s performance, CUT Ixias gained a lot of confidence, especially after their second half fight back. In the second half CUT staged a fightback not seen recently by the Blue Brigade. It began early in the second half with a great seven-point try by prop Kabous van Schalkwyk – the first of two tries by this mobile forward.
This ignited the log-trailing home side to score and run the ball with more passion at the defending Varsity Cup champs, scoring another three tries. This included another seven-pointer by big lock, Kian Skippers.
For the home side Mosego Toolo, Van Schalkwyk, Ruan Wasserman and Ruben Heymans again performed superbly. Dean Rossouw's warriors can certainly look forward at a much better end to their season, than their recent performances.
